2023 Office Design Trends

Over the past few years, the office space has undergone a drastic transformation. With many employees having to work from home, their needs changed. Now that workers are going back to the office, Interior Fusion, like many office furniture dealerships, has had to change the way we approach workplace design as well. To accommodate these changes, new trends emerged that fused home offices and workspace needs. As the year ends, here are the 2023 office design trends to look forward to.

Hybrid Workspaces

Before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, workers were usually stationed in office buildings. For the past few years, however, remote work has overtaken on-site jobs. With many employees returning to the office, the hybrid model has become more popular. Spending some of the work weeks in the office and the rest remotely, this hybrid model has allowed businesses to downsize larger floor plans to re-invest the saved money into amenities that improve workers’ quality of life. Expect more agile workspaces like booths or benches, as well as casual seating areas and breakout rooms.

Eco-Friendly Offices

We’ve seen a move towards sustainability and being eco-friendly in office design in 2022, and we expect it to continue gaining momentum in 2023. Furnishing offices with products that last longer and are environmentally friendly helps companies eliminate waste while saving money. Products such as energy-saving light bulbs, materials with high recycled content, upcycled furniture, and more will all work towards having a space that champions the employee and is energy-efficient. If you’re trying to evaluate how sustainable your workspace is, compare it to the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED standards or BREEAM. Both assess the sustainability of buildings.

Adding Technology

With more people working remotely, it’s important to include technology that allows you to conduct virtual meetings and communicate with one another. Installing large screens, projectors, and more into conference rooms makes the experience more comfortable for employees both in-office and remotely. Another thing to consider is adding smart technology to the office. Making your employees’ lives easier is a huge plus, so adding Alexa to the office along with app-controlled coffee makers and charging stations can increase productivity and happiness.

Offering Flexibility

Flexible office interiors are gaining in popularity and Interior Fusion expects this to be a large trend in 2023. Employees have changing needs during the day, so allowing them to move around the office to different working areas can increase worker positivity. An open layout allows for creativity, collaboration, improved company culture, and freedom to move around. We suggest offering booths, quiet working zones, collaborative areas, and more. If you want to go one step further and combat employee burnout, areas like a relaxation room, game room, and dining hall can make a real impact.

Nature-Filled Offices

2023 will see a sharp increase in plants in the office, due to increasing interest in multisensory biophilic design. Employers are more concerned about improving their employees’ well-being and introducing natural sounds, scents, and light into the workspace. A large part of this, besides adding nature, is having circadian lighting. Humans’ natural circadian rhythm is crucial to general well being and keeping that rhythm in check ensures we feel better. It also helps employees perform better as a result, so having the proper lighting and environment increases productivity.

The working environment has changed over the past few years, and will no doubt continue to evolve as trends come and go. If you need help designing your workspace, contact Interior Fusion.
