Seniors on a Mission
Written by Mikaela Benedict
Being on the Interior Fusion team has lots of perks, from the high-spirited joyful employees to the excitement of a customer when they find the exact thing they were looking for. Interior Fusion is never dull! Some days however show more excitement than others for example, while sipping my coffee and responding to my emails, a sweet woman popped in the showroom and asked if she could park her RV in our side parking lot while she had lunch with a friend. Not thinking anything about it, my co-worker Dawn said “sure!” and she was off. Some time passed before she and the other woman came back in the show room saying “Thank you for letting us park here! It’s actually perfect because we need some chairs!”
Excited about a potential sale, Steve Jacobs and I began asking her what she was looking for, she explained that her name was Joanne Hickox and she ran a senior's mission. Joanne began explaining how her mission helps bring company and comfort to the elderly. Since the pandemic hit, their rent was raised and the Lord told her to go mobile! Amazed by her heart and mission, Steve showed her a couple of chairs. When they both said they liked them, he offered them for free as a donation to the cause. Joanne’s eyes lit up and she exclaimed almost in tears “Really? You would do that for us?” To this Steve just replied “Yeah of course!”.
We helped our two new Seniors on a Mission missionary friends put their brand-new chairs in their mobile office. Steve was full of questions asking Joanne Hickox about her call to the mission, Steve then shared about his mother and his concerns about her during the pandemic. You could tell Steve was greatly impacted and that this was something he too was passionate about. Joanne showed us the care packages they give their seniors, the fun craft projects they do and even told us about their food bank and RV awning that can be easily set up for seniors to be together safely distanced outside. After snapping some fun pictures in the SOAM mobile office, we left them with joyful spirits.
It’s days like today that remind us there are ways to help the community that maybe you never expected you could do; we gave two chairs but we as a community can give so much more to the Seniors on a mission team. There are many ways to help the SOAM team from donating funds to filling their pantries - the possibilities to help those in need are endless!
